Aprilia RS 660 & Tuono 660 coming to India in 2021

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Piaggio is planning to bring the Aprilia RS 660 and the Tuono 660 to the Indian market. The brand has already launched the Aprilia RS 660 in the international market with prices starting GBP 10,149 in the UK which roughly converts to INR 10 lakh. The Italian manufacturer is expected to launch the motorcycle in the Indian market via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route around mid-2021.

While the Aprilia RS 660 features a supersport design language the Tuono 660 features a semi-fairing but like the supersport sibling features all the aerodynamic properties to slice through the air at high speeds. Both the Aprilia RS 660 and the Tuono 660 features Aprilia hallmark triple LED headlamps with LED daytime running lamps, automatic headlamp activation with ambient light sensor, muscular fuel tank, a high-mounted tail section, LED tail lamps, clip-on handlebars on the RS model and upright handlebars on the Tuono and a 5-inch colour TFT instruments screen with smartphone connectivity as well as cornering lamp function.

Both the Aprilia RS 660 and the Tuono 660 will be powered by the same Euro5 compliant 659cc forward-facing parallel twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled four-stroke engine with electronic fuel injection as well as water-oil radiator and heat exchanger for improved thermodynamics. The powertrain on the RS 660 produces 100 Hp of power and 67 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed gearbox with Bi-Directional Aprilia Quick Shift (AQS) and a mechanical slipper clutch.

The powertrain on the semi-faired Tuono 660 is expected to be slightly detuned to match the design characteristics. But both motorcycles share the aluminium dual beam chassis, adjustable 41mm Kayaba upside-down front fork suspension, adjustable monoshock suspension on the rear as well as the branking components equipped with Multimap Cornering ABS.

The European-spec Aprilia RS 660 comes with advanced features such as 5 Riding modes (Road and Track, 3 fixed and 2 customisable), Ride-by-Wire throttle, a six-axis inertia measuring unit, ATC (traction control), AWC (wheelie control), AEB (engine braking), AEM (engine maps) and ACC (cruise control).

The Aprilia RS 660 and the Tuono 660 are expected to bring in all the bells and whistles along with them to the Indian market, upon their arrival.
