Aprilia RS 457 prices revealed abroad, not yet for India

Aprilia has unveiled the pricing of the RS 457 in the USA. The much-anticipated small-capacity sportbike has sparked the interest of motorcycle enthusiasts globally. The motorcycle was initially unveiled back in September and competes with the likes of the Ninja 400. Thus, the recently announced US pricing sheds light on what Indian consumers can expect in terms of cost once the RS 457 hits the Indian market.

Pricing of the Aprilia RS 457

The pricing for the new Aprilia RS 457 in the US commences at $6799 (approximately INR 5.66 lakh) for the Prismatic Dark and Opalescent Light colour schemes. Meanwhile, the Racing Stripes version is priced slightly higher at $6899 (around INR 5.75 lakh). As such, figures may initially appear steep for a sub-500cc parallel-twin motorcycle, even one adorned with the prestigious Aprilia badge.

That said, it’s essential to recognize that the RS 457 is manufactured in India at Aprilia’s Baramati plant, situated just outside Pune. This factor significantly contributes to the anticipation that the motorcycle will be more budget-friendly in the Indian market compared to its US pricing. A parallel example is the KTM RC 390, produced by Bajaj in Chakan, also near Pune, and exported worldwide.

In a direct comparison, the RC 390 is priced at Rs 3.18 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) in India. However, it carries a price tag of $6474 (approximately INR 5.39 lakh) in the US. Meanwhile, the RS 457 is only marginally more expensive than the KTM. It features a larger displacement, an extra cylinder, and arguably a more exotic badge. Thus emphasizing the cost-effectiveness of locally manufactured motorcycles.

Aprilia RS 457 competitive pricing in India

Early indications point to a competitive pricing strategy for the RS 457 in the Indian market. While it is expected to carry a premium over the RC 390, the signs suggest that this premium may not be substantial. Enthusiasts could anticipate a price point around INR 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom). This would make the Aprilia RS 457 an attractive and potentially accessible option for Indian riders.
