Joining the sportsbike family for Aprilia in 2020 is the all-new RS660. At the ongoing EICMA show in Milan, Aprilia has taken the wraps off the 2020 RS660 which will go on sale globally and is a motorcycle built to rival the likes of Kawasaki Ninja 650, and not the Ninja ZX-6R. The Aprilia RS660 is more of a sporty tourer than an all-out track tool. This is a twin-cylinder motorcycle, and not an in-line 4.
Styling is the highlight with the double fairing design inspiration from the Aprilia RSV4. The outer fairing of the Aprilia RS660 helps to increase downforce at high speeds. The bike gets full LED headlamps with LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, 5″ TFT colour display speedometer console with smartphone connectivity, self-cancelling turn indicators, cornering lamps, mid-ship exhaust muffler, triple-clamp handlebar, forged levers, and more…
To make it a comfortable road bike, Aprilia claim that the seat is more spacious than the concept model and the clip-on handlebars are mounted over the top yoke. So expect riding stance similar to a Honda CBR650R than a Yamaha YZF-R6.
Aprilia have developed this new engine from the front half of the RSV4 1100cc engine. The parallel-twin engine pumps out 100 BHP of power and the bike has a weight of just 169 kg. The bike comes loaded with electronics package which includes a 6-axis IMU, traction control, cornering ABS, riding modes, wheelie control, up / down quickshifter, engine braking control and cruise control. Aprilia is confident that the RS660 will have a superior power-to-weight ratio which will outperform competition.
The bike rides on an aluminium frame and aluminium swing arm with the engine mounted as a stressed member. The Aprilia RS660 makes use of a 41mm fully adjustable Kayaba front fork and a rear monoshock. The bike gets stopping power from dual 320mm disc brakes at the front from Brembo.
