Aprilia has revealed the new RS 457. This is the twin-cylinder motorcycle that the company was working on. This Aprilia RS 457 is set to be made at the company’s Baramati plant in Maharashtra, India.
Like all Italian motorbikes, the Aprilia RS 457 gets a highly detailed design. It gets features like aluminium triple clamp, that add to the bike’s looks. Other features include a clip-on handlebars, sporty riding position, a 5.0-inch TFT display, switchgear with backlight, ride-by-wire and triple-level traction control.
Coming to the development of the bike, Aprilia’s headquarters at Noale, Italy did the design and development. Meanwhile, the Indian team gave its inputs as well. The bike is set to be manufactured in the Baramati Plant in India.
Aprilia has used an aluminium perimeter frame on the RS 457. This is similar to the larger 660. Suspension duties are handled by 41mm upside-down front forks which have a travel of 120mm. The rear monoshock meanwhile has 130mm of travel with preload adjustment. According to the bike maker, the dry weight of the Aprilia RS 457 is 159 kg, which increases to 179 kg when full.
Meanwhile, the brakes consist of a single 320mm front disc and a 220mm rear unit. It gets Bybre brake components. The bike rides on 110/60 R17 front and 150/60 R17 rear types. Uniquely, they are the TVS Eurogrip Protorq Extreme tyres. This makes the RS 457 the first bike to be shod on these tyres from the manufacturing line.
The 457 denotes the cubic capacity of the engine. This is a 4V DOHC parallel twin engine that develops 48 HP. It also comes with liquid cooling and a 270-degree crank. Meanwhile, power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed gearbox. While slipper and assist clutch could be offered as standard, the quick shifter is meanwhile offered as an optional accessory. That said, it is not known if the quick shifter is bidirectional or not.
While the exact launch date is not yet revealed by the company, the Aprilia RS 457 could make its Indian debut something near the MotoGP launch. It will head against the likes of the KTM RC 390 and the KawasakiNinja 400. However, as the bike is made it India, it is likely to undercut the Ninja.
