Apollo launches EV tyres for passenger cars & two-wheelers in India

With the steep rise in EVs on the road, tyre manufacturers are looking at a new emerging market for them. After JK Tyre, Apollo Tyres has also launched new EV-specific tyres. The two new tyres from the company will cater to electric passenger vehicles and electric two-wheelers. The two tyre models Apollo Tyres introduced are – Amperion & WAV. The former is for all-electric cars and the latter for electric two-wheelers.

Apollo Tyres’ Latest Technologies

Both these tyres feature the brand’s latest technologies such as ‘AQuT Tech’ and ‘BEST Tech’. The AQuT Tech stands for Apollo Quiet Tyre Technology and uses a special tyre cavity, pattern and construction to reduce road noise. On the other hand, the BEST Tech, which stands for Battery Energy Saver Technology, uses ultra low rolling resistance technology, which helps extends the range of EVs. Apollo says the Amperion’s design draws inspiration from a jellyfish, which is the most energy-efficient and silent creature. Meanwhile, the Apollo WAV takes inspiration from the digital circuit board design.

Apollo Amperion – Highlights

Apollo designed the Amperion for the EVs on sale in India today. These include EVs like the Tata Nexon EV, Hyundai Kona and MG ZS EV. Apollo claims the Amperion offers best-in-class rolling resistance, low noise, an electric tread pattern design and an aerodynamic sidewall. The Apollo Amperion has also become the first Indian tyre to receive a 5-star fuel savings rating for the PV category from BEE.

Apollo WAV – Highlights

These tyres are designed for high-powered electric scooters available in the market today. These include the likes of the TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Ather 450. Apollo says the WAV’s special design offers low rolling resistance, low weight and high levels of traction. The latter also helps deal with the initial torque much better. Apollo also mentioned it plans to extend this range to electric motorcycles when it is big enough of a market.
