Well, we all order the stuff we want the most via Amazon. Quite a few of us also make use of Prime option for a faster delivery. Now, the largest online retail brand Amazon is set to change their more of transport for delivery. Amazon has placed an order for 1,00,000 electric vehicles from the Rivian. Rivian is an EV manufacturer and has also received a $440 million investment from Amazon. Rivian electric vans would reduce the carbon footprint by a huge margin considering how many delivery vehicles burning fuel ply on the roads worldwide.
This is the biggest ever order for any electric vehicle manufacturer in a bulk deal. The Rivian vans for Amazon delivery will hit the streets by 2021. By 2022, there would be a total of 10,000 vans at least on the delivery duty while the full 1,00,000 vans ordered are expected to be en-route dropping couriers by 2030. Making use of electric vans for deliver, Amazon expects to cut down on fuel costs by a huge margin. Since the delivery points are decided, the brand does not need to have any driving range anxiety as everything can be accounted for. With zero-emissions delivery vehicles, it could also give Amazon a halo to boast about.
Rivian has listed 2 products on their official website, the R1 SUV and the R1T pick-up which would offer 4×4 hardware. Rivian is also working with Ford to develop their future EVs across segments. Rivial’s chassis will also be used as a stepping stone for Automobili Pininfarina in their upcoming high-performance SUV to rival the likes of Lamborghini Urus.
Now, will these Rivian electric vans drop couriers in India? Seems like a far stretch at the moment given the poor EV infrastructure in India. But in the future, this surely looks like a step in the right direction.
