Hyundai has unveiled the next-gen Kona. The new car appears to be a completely revised version of the existing Kona and now comes in traditional internal combustion engine variant, a hybrid variant as well as an all-electric version as well.
Hyundai has offered three different fascias for the Kona based on it’s powertrain. The car gets a curved nose, while each of the three versions come with slight changes at the front. The all-electric version gets a full-width LED light bar. Hyundai call this Seamless Horizon Lamp. It also gets a pixelated lower bumper and similar design 19-inch alloy wheels.
The conventional ICE and hybrid versions appear more standard looking and sports a plastic cladding, a faux skid plate and an aggressive looking front bumper with blanked-out intakes.
The top-of-the-variants is the N-Line which gets different front and rear bumpers with silver side skirts and different 19-inch alloys. Customers can also opt for a black roof and black ORVMs.
On the inside, it gets a very Ioniq 5 looking interior. It gets a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that merges into a 12.3-inch driver information display. The Kona gets a floating dashboard design while the central part of it is curved and houses the variant controls. The gear shifter has also been removed from the centre console to give it a clean look and now resides on the steering column like Mercedes-Benz cars.
At the back, the new Kona gets a bench seat which is slightly different that current back seats. Hyundai has also said that this seat will offer a unique experience with maximum usability. The Korean car maker has also gone ahead and said that the 2nd-row seats will offer the highest comfort and convenience. The cargo space has also been extended.
While full specifications are not yet released, we can expect the hybrid to come with a 1.6-liter unit with 139 HP and 264 Nm of peak torque. The Kona EV meanwhile could be offered with a 201 HP electric motor and a 64.8 kWh battery good for 407 km of range.
The first Kona to hit the shelves will be the Kona EV followed by the ICE, hybrid and N-line units. This is claimed to be done to ensure a tech-centric design can be brought to all the Kona versions.
