All-new BMW Motorrad S1000RR in India next month

The new BMW Motorrad S1000RR is ready to be launched in India soon. The motorcycle will be replacing the previous generation S1000RR which was launched in 2009. The bike has been teased on the brands social media platforms and is only over a month away from launch.

The BMW Motorrad S1000RR is expected to house a 999cc, inline 4-cylinder block but the engine will be updated and with BMW’s ShiftCam technology which is basically a variable valve timing unit. The international spec engine produces 207 HP of power @ 13,500 RPM and 113 Nm of torque @ 11,000 RPM coupled to a 6-speed gearbox and it is equipped with an up and down quick-shifter. The engine produces 8 HP more than the old model.

The new BMW S1000RR is expected to come with an updated electronics package and is likely to feature a six-axis IMU with cornering ABS and dynamic traction control. The S1000RR is likely to get a new 6.5-inch full-colour TFT display and will come with four riding mode: Rain, Road, Dynamic & Race.

The new S1000RR features a redesigned chassis and is expected to get a WSBK inspired swingarm and other lightweight components. Because of the new lighter engine and frame, the motorcycle has lost around 11 kg and the top-spec M package weighs around 3.5 kg less than the standard and weighs in at 193.5 kg (kerb). The S1000RR is also expected to have a Marzocchi suspension unit instead of Sachs and also the brakes have been swapped with Hayes unit rather than the Brembo’s which were on the earlier model.

The 2019 model is expected to be available in three trims – a standard model, S1000RR Sport and S1000RR M package. These models are available in the international market. The standard model is expected to be priced slightly higher than the current model which is priced at INR 18.05 lakh ex-showroom, Delhi. The top-spec M package S1000RR is expected to be priced around INR 25 lakh ex-showroom.

The BMW Motorrad S1000RR will rival the likes of Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade, Suzuki GSX-R1000 and the likes.
