All-New 2021 Honda CBR 600RR launched, On-Sale from September

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced that the all-new much-anticipated Honda CBR 600RR super sports bike will go on sale from 25th September across all Honda Dream dealerships in Japan. The 2021 Honda CBR 600RR will be priced at JPY 1,606,000 which approximately converts to INR 11.36 lakhs and competes with other global products such as the Kawasaki ZX6R and the Yamaha R6.

The Honda CBR 600RR was first introduced in 2003 and was the successor of the Honda CBR600F4i. The middleweight sports bike was derived from the brand’s most advanced two-wheeler the Honda RC211V MotoGP bike that was developed by HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) to succeed the two-stroke Honda NSR500. The all-new CBR 600RR will come in Grand Prix Red, a tri-colour scheme that represents Honda racing technologies and the brand plans to sell around 1000 units per annum in Japan.

At the time of its introduction, the CBR 600RR brought new technologies to the road such as Honda’s Dual Stage Fuel Injection system, advanced ‘Hollow Fine Die-Cast’ chassis and Unit Pro-Link suspension. The brand has also made changes to the powertrain making it more efficient as well as increasing the engine speed up to 14,000 RPM, by changing materials used for key components such as camshafts, valve springs and the crankshaft.

The All-New Honda CBR 600RR is powered by a 599cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke DOHC inline four-cylinder engine that punches out 121 PS of power and 64 Nm of torque achieved by reshaping of the inlet port, enlargement of the throttle bore diameter, optimization of the size of various parts of the exhaust pipes, as well as changes in valve timing. The engine is matched to a 6-speed gearbox with Assist & slipper clutch and also gets a bi-directional quickshifter as an accessory.

The new-generation model also comes with new-age technologies such as an IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit)-based vehicle attitude estimation system, throttle-by-wire (TBW) system, Power Selector, Wheelie Mitigation Control and Selectable Engine Brake, Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), Full LED lighting, Full-color thin film transistor (TFT) liquid-crystal display for instrumentation, Emergency Stop Signal system, etc.

The new CBR 600RR also comes with completely new exteriors which are sharper than before but retains its hallmark under seat exhaust system. In terms of design and styling, the motorcycle features sleek LED headlamp units, a central air duct for ram air induction, race-style bubble windscreen, aero winglets that flank the sides, step-up seating, clip-on handlebar etc.

The brand has also optimized the projected front and lateral areas and the lowest drag coefficient in the class that contributes to the improvement of wind-resistant performance and bring more agile handling to the motorcycle. The Aero Winglets positioned on the left and right sides of the leading edge of the front cowl not only contribute to the downforce but also increase stability while entering corners or turning while accelerating.

While Honda may sell the CBR 600RR in the international market the brand is not likely to bring the middleweight super sport bike to India anytime soon. Instead, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has started accepting pre-launch bookings on the 2020 Honda CBR 1000RR-R Fireblade and Fireblade SP in the Indian market.
