Its been a year since Tata Motors launched its hottest hatchback the Tata Altroz in the Indian market and the brand has crossed the 50,000 sales milestone just under a year. Tata had launched the Altroz in January last year and in just a year the brand also added another powertrain in the Altroz portfolio called the ‘Altroz iTurbo’ strengthening the Altroz brand and equipping the hatchback to better compete with the latest crop of three-cylinder turbo-petrol vehicles in the segment such as the Volkswagen Polo, the Hyundai i20, as well as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and the Toyota Glanza.
Tata sells nearly 4,000 Altroz hatchbacks in a month and close to 90% of the Altroz sold are in the petrol-powered avatar. The Tata Altroz has helped the brand increase the market by 5.4% in FY 2021 and with the Altroz the brand has managed nearly 17% market in the premium hatchback segment. The brand also expects that the new Altroz iTurbo model will boost the brand’s sales by 10% and the range will create new benchmarks in the premium hatchback segment.
Tata’s latest, the Altroz iTurbo is powered by a new BS6 emission-compliant 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol motor that produces 110 PS of power and 140 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The hot hatchback with the new efficient, as well as sporty engine, returns a fuel efficiency of 18.13 kmpl on the MIDC cycle and is capable of sprinting from 0-100 kmph in just 11.9 seconds.
Tata has not made any changes to the Altroz iTurbo except for improving the quality of the material, a new Harbour Blue exterior paint, new dual-tone light grey and black interior theme as well as add-on features such as IRA connected features that offer 70 Hindi, English and Hinglish commands, Xpress Cool air-conditioning, wearable SmartKey, wearable SmartKey and remote smartphone connectivity.
