Piaggio is planning to launch more products in the Indian market in the coming years to strengthen the brand’s position in India. The Italian brand is expected to launch products under the Aprilia brand that could be positioned in the middleweight segment that has been flourishing and growing in terms of consumer demand. According to a media report, Piaggio’s MD and CEO, Diego Graffi has revealed that the brand will be ready when the time comes to launch motorcycles in the 300cc to 500cc segment.

Furthermore, the head honcho also revealed that the demand is currently high in the 150cc to 350cc segment right now and the brand could be waiting for the market to get mature. It is also revealed that the brand will be producing the vehicle in India but it will be made for the global market, leading us to believe that the brand could be planning to export the product when it arrives.

As of now, the brand has not revealed any timeline nor product details but confirmed that the brand will be ready with the right product when the time comes. The product will is also likely to be something which is not currently there in the Indian market. In the 300cc to 500cc category, Piaggio could launch the RS 400 and the Tuono 400 under the Aprilia brand.

Out of the two, the Tuono 400 is something that no manufacturer in the Indian market is offering in the category. But the brand is likely to bring both the RS as well as the Tuono to give customers a wider choice. The 150cc iteration of the Tuono was also showcased at the Auto Expo 2018 to gauge the demand and before the COVID induced lockdown the brand also for a brief time updated the Indian website with the Aprilia Tuono 125 but that project is likely to have been shelved and is expected to be replaced by the larger displacement Tuono that could be launched in 2022-23.
