Bajaj Chetak electric deliveries delayed due to COVID-19 outbreak

One of India’s leading two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto launched their first electric scooter which reincarnated the company’s famous Chetak brand was launched in January 2020 but now due to the COVID-19 outbreak and the lockdown imposed by the central Government the company has temporarily suspended its vehicle production and operations leading to delays in the vehicle deliveries. Although a few units from the first batch of vehicles have already been delivered before the lockdown was imposed.

Bajaj initially planned to deliver the Chetak electric scooters to its customers by the end of February but because of the disruption caused in production due to the ongoing CoronaVirus outbreak the brand is likely to deliver the scooter around the month of September, says a report. Assuming the lockdown is lifted on 3rd May the brand is expected to restart production and other operations depending on the health situations. 

In terms of its styling, the Bajaj Chetak electric features a contemporary styling that echoes with the Old Chetak bold front fascia, with a rounded LED headlamp unit, horseshoe-shaped LED daytime running light, LED vertically oriented signal lamps integrated into the front nose, centrally placed embellishment in chrome, multi-spoke alloy wheels, large ergonomic seats, LED tail lamps, and silver-finished pillion grab handles. 

The Bajaj Chetak also features a fully-digital negative backlit LCD instruments display surrounded by a satin chrome bezel and displays vital information such as state of charge, range, speed, odometer, time etc along with smartphone app connectivity. The Chetak also gets sequential LED indicators on the rear, multiple luggage storage spaces, reverse gear and disc brakes with a regenerative braking system.

Powering the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is a 3kWh dust and waterproof IP67 rated battery pack with a 4kW/14 Nm electric motor that claims to have a riding range of more than 95 km on a full charge. It takes 5 hours to completely recharge the battery pack while it takes 3 hours and 30 minutes for the battery to attain an 80% State of Charge.

The Chetak electric scooter is available in two trim variants – Urbane and Premium. The Urbane is priced at INR 1 lakh ex-showroom, Pune and Bangalore while the Premium is priced at INR 1.15 lakh ex-showroom, Pune and Bangalore.
