SUV is the flavour that works here in the Indian car market, and Tata Motors is all set to cash in on it with a micro-SUV. Codenamed as the H2X and also known as the Hornbill, this product will make a debut at the Auto Expo 2020 in New Delhi, India next month. This small SUV will be sold in a petrol-only avatar and will be a 5-seater hatchback on stills posing as an SUV. Primary rivals would include the likes of Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Mahindra KUV100.
The expected engine to be on offer with the Tata H2X is the 1.2L Revotron, 3-cylinder unit. Expect manual and AMT gearbox options, and when in BS6 tune, this engine could be shared with the Tiago with the same power and torque output. The H2X is unlikely to get a diesel motor owing to high pricing in development of diesel motors compliant with the BS6 emission norms. The H2X will be pitched as the smallest SUV from Tata Motors and it will sit below the Nexon. The H2X / Hornbill will be based on the AlfaARC chassis which is also shared with the Altroz. The H2X will also sport the Impact 2.0 design language.
Tata first revealed the H2X concept at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and the market debut for this car would happen later in 2020. At the Auto Expo 2020 in India, we expect a near production prototype to be displayed and very soon more spyshots of this car road testing on Indian soil would keep surfacing.
The Tata H2X / Hornbill will measure 3840mm in length, 1822mm in width, 1635mm in height and 2450mm in wheelbase.
Expect features such as LED DRLs, 15-16″ alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment with Harman audio, digital speedometer, automatic climate control, engine start / stop button on top variants, dual tone exterior paint options, etc.
