The upcoming Range Rover Electric SUV is undergoing rigorous testing in the high-temperature deserts of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This testing follows earlier evaluations in the Arctic Circle, showcasing the SUV’s performance in extreme conditions.
Testing Conditions
Range Rover engineers tested the Range Rover Electric at temperatures as high as 50°C with humidity levels reaching 90%. They focus on the SUV’s new thermal management system, designed to maintain cabin comfort and optimize battery performance even in harsh climates.
The engineers also tested the SUV on Big Red, a 300-foot sand dune in Sharjah’s Al Badayer desert. They evaluated the new Intelligent Torque Management system, which improves traction control by diverting power to each electric motor, reducing torque reaction time from 100 milliseconds to just one millisecond.
Earlier Cold-Weather Tests
Before the desert tests, the Range Rover Electric faced the harsh Arctic Circle. There, it underwent extreme cold tests at temperatures below -40°C. Engineers assessed the battery’s performance, heating system, and overall reliability. The SUV’s cold-weather package includes heated seats, steering wheel, and battery pre-conditioning to ensure optimal performance.
Performance and Features
The Range Rover Electric SUV has a dual-motor powertrain configuration. Each axle gets its own electric motor, which ensures all-wheel drive. This setup improves traction and stability on different terrains. The dual motors could produce close to 530 hp. The SUV also features an 800V charging system, allowing fast charging and long-range driving. It delivers high torque and quick acceleration, matching the performance of traditional V8 engines.
