BMW Motorrad has officially opened pre-launch bookings for its highly anticipated electric scooter, the CE 02 BEV, in the Indian market. This move marks a significant step for the German automaker as it continues to expand its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio in India, following the launch of the CE 04 earlier this year.
Key Features and Specifications
The BMW CE 02 BEV is equipped with an 11 kW (15 hp) motor that delivers a maximum torque of 55 Nm. This setup allows the CE 02 to achieve a top speed of 95 km/h, making it suitable for city rides. Additionally, a 4 kW version is available globally, targeting younger riders under the age of eighteen.
One of the standout features of the CE 02 is its range, which is approximately 90 kilometers on a single charge. This makes it an ideal choice for daily commutes and short trips within the city. The scooter also comes with two riding modes, “Flow” and “Surf,” which are designed to optimize performance for different riding conditions. An optional “Flash” mode is available for those seeking a more dynamic riding experience.
Design and Build
The CE 02 features a robust steel frame and a single-sided rear swingarm, ensuring durability and stability. The front suspension is handled by telescopic forks, while the rear is equipped with a monoshock. Safety is a priority, with the scooter boasting single-channel ABS, Automatic Stability Control (ASC), and Recuperative Stability Control (RSC). A reverse assistant feature adds to the convenience, making parking and maneuvering in tight spaces easier.
Technology and Convenience
BMW Motorrad has integrated several advanced technologies into the CE 02 to enhance the riding experience. The scooter comes with a 3.5-inch TFT display that provides essential information at a glance. Keyless ride, LED headlights with daytime running lights, and a USB-C socket for charging devices are standard features. The CE 02 can be charged using a 1.5 kW external charger, compatible with household sockets.
Pricing and Availability
The CE 02 will be locally assembled in India, which is expected to help keep the price competitive. The scooter is likely to be priced around INR 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom). BMW Motorrad aims to launch the CE 02 during the festive season, making it a timely addition to the market as consumers look for eco-friendly transportation options.
