Skoda has unveiled a unique and powerful version of its Mk3 Superb Estate, aptly named the “Sleeper Edition.” This one-off model, developed by UK engineering firm RE Performance, combines practicality with an impressive 470 BHP, making it a standout in the world of performance cars.
Unassuming Yet Powerful
At first glance, the Skoda Superb Sleeper Edition appears to be a standard estate car, maintaining the unassuming look of the Laurin & Klement 4×4 variant. However, beneath its modest exterior lies a beastly 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, significantly upgraded to deliver 470 BHP and 488 lb-ft of torque. This transformation is achieved through the addition of a Garrett PowerMax turbocharger, a performance intercooler kit, and an optimized fuel system.
Engineering Marvel
The engineering team behind this project has a history of pushing boundaries, having previously sent an Octavia to 227 mph at Bonneville. For the Superb Sleeper Edition, they have equipped the car with KW coilover suspension, lowering it by 50mm, and AP Racing brakes with six-piston calipers and large discs. These modifications ensure that the car not only accelerates rapidly but also handles and stops with precision.
Practicality Meets Performance
Despite its high-performance capabilities, the Superb Sleeper Edition retains the practicality that Skoda is known for. The estate offers a generous 1,950 litres of boot space with the seats down, making it suitable for everyday use. The interior features Cognac leather upholstery and all the amenities of the Laurin & Klement edition, including LED lights, lane assist, and an electrically operated boot.
A True Sleeper
The term “sleeper” refers to a car that looks ordinary but has extraordinary performance. The Superb Sleeper Edition embodies this concept perfectly. Its Royal Green Metallic paint and standard exterior give no hint of the power lurking beneath the hood. This makes it an ideal choice for those who want a high-performance vehicle without attracting undue attention.
While it remains a one-off model and is not available for public purchase, it showcases what is possible when engineering excellence meets everyday usability. For those lucky enough to experience it, the Sleeper Edition promises a driving experience that is both thrilling and practical.
