MG’s next car for India is the Comet. This small all-electric personal mobility vehicle is smaller than our regular cars, but is touted as an urban commuter. Now, images of the same have come out and we can see the unique proposition that this car could offer to its owners.
MG Comet EV : Design & Exteriors
Right from the outside, this car is unlike any in our market today. The Comet EV’s diminutive proportions make it pretty good for urban city centres. The car’s doors cover the entire side profile of the Comet. Meanwhile, the car in the image is the long wheelbase version, which gets an extra window at the back. The LWB is said to ferry 4 passengers comfortably.
Coming to dimensions, the car measures 2.9m long, 1.5m wide and weighs 815 kg.
Additionally, at the front, there is a full-width light bar and a chrome strip that joins the ORVMs. The rear gets a full-width red light bar with a small logo in the bottom. For the interiors, we can expect a dual screen setup and faux leather upholstery. The car will come equipped with dual front airbags and a rear parking camera.
MG Comet EV : Interiors
Interiors are minimalistic with a two-spoke steering wheel for the driver, dual displays – one for the driver information and one for the infotainment system, a cubby to store things on the passenger side, and light grey and white interior colours. From the images, we can say that such interiors will look pleasing and unoffensive.
The rear seats are tight from the images, but they could be comfortable for children or smaller adults. The two-door car might not be very practical if you are carrying 4 occupants all the time, but as an urban runabout car, it makes sense that the rear seats provide additional seating capacity when needed.
The boot space is pretty low with the rear seats in the upright position. However, by tumbling them, we can use the boot space for your grocery run or carrying some bags.
Powertrain of the MG Comet and range
MG has equipped the small car with a 17.3 kWh battery and a 40.7 HP motor that sends power to the rear wheels. The Comet comes with disc brakes on all four wheels and the fully charged range is claimed to be around 200-250 km. There is no DC charging so AC charging on a regular connection will take around 8.5 hours for a full charge.
