QJMotor to launch motorcycles in India?

Written by Kanad Kalasur

According to a media report, QJMotor is likely to debut in India this month. The brand is the sister concern of Benelli, with both of them being owned by the Qianjiang Group. To mark its entry in the Indian market, QJMotor will launch four bikes.

So far, the QJ branded bikes have only been available in China – its home market. The company has been looking at a global expansion, and India looks to be one of the favourable markets for them. QJMotor has a wide range of products on sale in China – over 30 models spread across motorcycles, scooters and even EVs. But for its India debut, it is said that they will bring the retro SRC250, SRCC500, the naked SRK400 roadster and the SRV300.

SRC500

Based on the Benelli Imperiale 400, it gets a bigger engine and few cosmetic changes. It is powered by a 480cc engine that generates 25.8 HP with a peak torque of either 36 Nm or 40 Nm (different figures on the company website). In comparison the Benelli’s 374cc engine makes 21 HP.

SRC250

The retro looking SRC250 might be expected to be the smaller engined version of the SRC500, but it is a very different bike. It looks different and is powered by a 249cc twin cylinder engine. It puts our 17.7 HP @8,000 rpm with 16.5 Nm of torque. As a comparison, the Gixxer 250 on sale in India puts out 26.5 HP @9,300 rpm with a peak torque of 22.2 Nm.

SRK400

This is a street fighter motorcycle with a sharp design. It could take on the likes of the Duke 390. Powered by a 400cc parallel twin engine, it develops 41.5 HP and 37 Nm. The chassis looks very familiar to the Benelli TNT 300’s trellis frame with an upside down fork suspension at the front and a monoshock at the back. It gets twin disc brakes at the front and a single disc at the back. The laden kerb weight is said to be 186 kg, making it quite light for its size.

SRV300

This could be the one that could be sold as a rebadged Harley-Davidson. The bobber sports a  liquid cooled V-twin engine. The 300cc motor develops 30.7 HP and 26 Nm of torque. It will be offered with a 6-speed gearbox. In terms of its Harley connection, the American bike maker could be looking at penetrating this segment in the Asian markets and has partnered with QJMotor.

QJMotor in India

The QJMotor bikes could be sold via the Moto Vault dealerships. Distribution is expected to be managed by Adishwar Auto Ride India, who are the official Benelli distributors in India. Expect a mid-November launch.
