On Independence Day, Mahindra showcased to us its INGLO electric architecture and five electric SUVs based on it. The timeline is that the first of those electric SUVs will arrive only in December 2024. Now, as per reports, Mahindra will launch the electric version of the XUV300 – dubbed the XUV400 on September 6, 2022.
Mahindra XUV400 will be longer than XUV300
The spy pictures of the electric SUV give a clear indication that the production version of the XUV400 will carry over the design of the eXUV300 concept that Mahindra showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. However, unlike the XUV300, the XUV400 will have a length longer than four metres (around 4.2 metres). This is because the sub-4 metre rule for the lower tax bracket does not apply to electric vehicles.
Besides the added length, the XUV400 will have some other differentials when compared to the XUV300. This includes elements like new headlights with integrated DRLs, a closed-off front grille, a reprofiled tailgate and a new design for the tail lamps.
Mahindra XUV400 could get ADAS features
We do not have any official information on XUV400’s powertrain at the moment. But we understand Mahindra will most likely equip it with a single front-wheel-drive electric motor. The performance output of this motor will stand at around 150hp. Given the competition and rising demand, the electric SUV is likely to come with two battery pack options.
In terms of equipment, Mahindra will add a larger touchscreen infotainment system featuring the brand’s Adreno X infotainment system. There are some rumours suggesting that the carmaker could also equip the XUV400 with ADAS features.
Mahindra XUV400 will rival Tata Nexon EV
The XUV400 is Mahindra’s EV answer to the electric mobility segment. This will be followed by the first of its born electric SUVs towards the end of 2024. The model will go up against the Tata Nexon EV, which is currently going through a golden period as there’s no direct competition to challenge it.
