MY22 Yamaha XSR700 gets updates, not coming to India

Written by Rohit Tonapi

Yamaha has unveiled the updated 2022 XSR700, Yamaha’s retro version of the popular MT-07. The neo-retro motorcycle receives updates and changes similar to the 2022 XSR900.

2022 Yamaha XSR700 – What’s new?

The 2022 XSR700 gets two new dual-tone colours – Black Metallic X and Radical White. The latter is exclusive to the Japanese market. The Radical White is reminiscent of Yamaha sports bikes of yesteryear, and the dual-tone colour gets a white paint scheme and blue-coloured graphics. On the other hand, the Black Metallic X gets a black paint scheme, gold-coloured graphics, and golden alloy wheels.

The lighting is all new on the 2022 XSR700. To start with, it gets a new full-LED headlight that is smaller than the previous one. According to Yamaha, the new headlight gives it a more ‘snub-nose’ look. The round all-LED taillight mounts above the rear fender and, along with the LED turn signal indicators, complete the look.

The model also gets new Michelin Road 5 tyres, replacing the Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp. Braking hardware gets an upgrade as well. The twin front discs are now larger in diameter. The front discs now measure 298mm, up from 282mm previously. ABS comes as standard.

The instrumentation is totally revised. The model now gets a repositioned inverted LCD meter for better visibility. Updates to the switchgear make it more user-friendly, and the LCD is also controllable from the left-side switch.

2022 Yamaha XSR700 – Specifications

Yamaha continues to use the same 688cc, inline-twin DOHC engine as the MT-07. It also features the brand’s Crossplane technology, which uses a 270-degree crank for more linear power delivery. The engine produces 73 PS of power and 67 Nm of torque. The XSR700 also gets a 6-speed gearbox.

The XSR700 uses a 41mm right-side-up front fork and a link-type Monocross rear shock. Additionally, both get 5.1-inch wheel travel, and the rear spring preload is adjustable. The bike uses lightweight 10-spoke cast aluminium wheels and 4-piston front brake callipers. The motorcycle has a kerb weight of 188kgs and gets a 14-litre fuel tank.

2022 Yamaha XSR700 – Will it come to India?

The XSR700 and the MT-07 are among the highest-selling models in the company’s lineup. In India, however, Yamaha’s focus is scooters and motorcycles up to 300cc. This focus is also more apparent as Yamaha recently had a preview of its new electric scooters for dealers in India.
