Hero Electric & SUN Mobility to deploy 10,000 electric swappable two-wheelers in 2022-23

Written by Akhil Dalvi

One of India’s renowned electric two-wheeler manufacturers, Hero Electric, has announced its partnership with the leading energy provider, SUN Mobility. The partnership entails the deployment of 10,000 electric two-wheelers with SUN Mobility’s swappable battery technology by the end of 2022. The companies also announced that they will begin deployment of these electric two-wheelers in the coming 3 months. This decision also falls in-line with the Honourable Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s announcement of introducing a battery swapping policy.

SUN Mobility’s Current & Future Plans

SUN Mobility’s industry-leading battery technology and the interoperability of battery swapping infrastructure will encourage Hero Electric’s customers to own electric two-wheelers. This will also help reduce the range anxiety factor among Hero Electric customers or the inaccessibility of a charging infrastructure. SUN Mobility’s global interoperable smart mobility solution involves modular Smart Batteries, making them connected, safer, robust, and efficient.

These batteries also address the issue of extensive charging times and range anxiety due to being swappable in nature. SUN Mobility’s network of Quick Interchange Stations (SWAP POINTS) grants a ‘refuelling’ infrastructure that is faster, cheaper, and more convenient. These stations also utilise the Pay-Per-Use model that empowers individuals, e-commerce companies, and fleet operators to adopt electric mobility.

Hero Electric’s Current & Future Plans

Hero Electric has been at the forefront of the EV revolution in the country for the last 14 years. It has catered to various customer requirements with products, like the Photon, Optima, and Atria under City-Speed and Low-Speed categories. The company has now focussed its efforts on expanding its existing R&D facilities to manufacture the next generation of EVs. Introduced within the Low-speed, City Speed & High-speed categories, these vehicles will work under the company’s currently developing, robust EV infrastructure.

Hero Electric aims to achieve this by expansive investment in innovative technological inventions to hasten the transition of electric mobility. The company has sold over 450,000 units of electric two-wheelers and set up over 750 touchpoints across the country. Hero Electric continues to partner with various Tier 1 start-ups for infrastructure development like banks, NBFCs, and financial institutions. It does this in order to broaden access and ease of affordability of electric two-wheelers to its customers in India.
