Volkswagen India has announced the launch of its highly anticipated flagship SUV, the Tiguan, for the Indian market. VW has launched the Tiguan in its ‘Elegance’ variant and priced it at INR 31.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Volkswagen has built the Tiguan using its core DNA which includes, build quality, safety, and a fun-to-drive experience. Local production and assembly of the SUV began at the end of November 2021 in the brand’s Aurangabad plant.
VW has also opened the bookings for the Tiguan SUV, with deliveries beginning from mid-January 2022 onwards. The brand will offer Tiguan customers a 4EVER Care Program that includes a 4-year standard warranty and RSA. Customers can pay INR 63,558 for the standard warranty package or extend by paying an additional INR 31,499. Customers can extend these warranties to 7-years and 10-years, respectively.
2021 Volkswagen Tiguan: Design Highlights
Utilizing Volkswagen’s renowned MQB platform, the new Tiguan features a muscular front bumper with piano black inserts. Additionally, the SUV now sports a broad new grille with 4-layer Chrome lines, LED matrix headlamps, and integrated LED DRLs. The SUV also sports LED cornering lights within the headlamps and a new VW logo on the front radiator grille. To enhance its SUV credentials and dynamic proportions, VW offers the new Tiguan with new 18-inch Frankfurt design alloy wheels.
At the back, the Tiguan SUV sports dark red LED tail lights with a chrome strip across the rear bumper. Other elements include a LED switch function, an exhaust chrome piece on the bumper, roof rails, and an integrated roof spoiler. VW will offer the Tiguan in 7 colour options – Nightshade Blue, Pure White, and Oryx White with Pearl effect. Other colours include Deep Black, Dolphin Gray, Reflex Silver, and Kings Red. The SUV also features a rough road package which consists of side body cladding to complement its off-roading capability.
2021 Volkswagen Tiguan: Powertrain Highlights
Volkswagen will offer a single petrol powertrain option for the Tiguan SUV with no option for a diesel. VW has equipped the SUV with its renowned 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, TFSI petrol engine producing 190 PS and 320 Nm. The brand will offer a choice of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission with the Tiguan SUV. VW has also equipped the 5-seater SUV with its new 4MOTION technology, which provides enhanced performance, fun, and safety. According to ARAI certification, the Tiguan sports a fuel economy of 12.65 kmpl.
2021 Volkswagen Tiguan: Interiors & Features Highlights
The interiors of the new Tiguan feature Premium Vienna leather seats and illuminated scuff plates along with several chrome elements. The SUV also sports a 30-coloured ambient lighting system with a large panoramic sunroof and a 10-inch digital driver’s display. Additionally, the SUV sports a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity and USB-C ports.
Along with a 615-litre boot, the SUV also features new touch-sensitive controls for the 3-zone automatic climate control. Volkswagen also offers the Tiguan with an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with 3-memory settings, 6 airbags, ABS, and TPMS. Customers can access connected car tech features such as Geo-Fencing and Time Fencing via the ‘My Volkswagen Connect App’. Other safety features include a Hill Start Assist with Descent Control and Auto-Hold technology along with a driver alert system.
