Audi is developing high voltage batteries and electric powertrains for the future of electric mobility. The four-ring brand has announced that it will develop significant skills for electromobility at the Neckarsulm site. Electric mobility is the future, and therefore Audi is working towards creating the future and transforming the auto industry. The brand reveals that the Neckarsulm site is best prepared for developing a complete high-voltage battery portfolio. Furthermore, the structures for PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicles) already exist, revealed a Member of the Board for Technical Development at Audi. The brand will also collaborate with high-voltage battery development at the Ingolstadt site – located primarily in Neckarsulm.
Battery Development Centre at Neckarsulm
Audi revealed that a battery centre is in development at the Neckarsulm site. The site will have a laboratory for pilot projects and offer employees with additional training. This will enhance the engineer’s knowledge in high-voltage storage modules, who previously worked at the testing facility for combustion engines. The testing for the new high-voltage storage modules for electric vehicles will begin in 2023. This shows the brand’s clear commitment to electric mobility.
Employees Competency as a Key Towards Electromobility
Since 2020, Audi has significantly trained its technical development staff at the location to secure its outlook on the future. Audi employees in the technical development unit also have access to various advanced training opportunities, revealed the brand. The company is banking on the high competency of its employees in the Neckarsulm technical development centre.
Audi’s Neckarsulm Site
The Audi’s Neckarsulm site also has several construction projects. These include a new multi-function building for the technical development that will be completed by 2022. Also, the brand will construct a new paint shop by 2025. The company reveals that a new building for the assembly of mixed production and future e-models is already geared. Audi is also gearing up to electrify the Audi A6, A7 and A8 models with Plug-in Hybrid and mild-hybrid powertrains. While the brand leading electric vehicle, the Audi e-tron GT, will be manufactured at the Bollinger Hofe site.
