Audi e-tron driving range extended via OTA update

Written by Akhil Dalvi

Audi has launched an over-the-air (OTA) update for some of its e-Tron models to improve its overall driving range. Introduced in 2019, Audi included the revised software with the debut of the e-Tron Sportback for international markets. Audi has begun rolling out the OTA update for other variants of the e-tron Sportback produced in 2019 and 2020. Audi claims that post the OTA update, its e-tron 55 Quattro SUV has gained a range extension of up to 5%.

Improved Range + Net Usable Power

Along with providing about 20km of added range, the update also enables the battery to deliver higher net usable power. This entails that the electric SUV can now utilize 86 kWh out of 95 kWh battery pack while driving. Audi also claims that the update now optimizes the controls and enables the front electric motor to disconnect itself. Audi states that this will typically occur during a situation when the car requires less power.

Improved Thermodynamics

The OTA update also improves the battery’s cooling system performance by lowering volume flow rates in the coolant circuit. This allows for better fast charging, a longer battery life, and an even more consistent EV driving performance. Audi has introduced the OTA update for its e-tron owners in the international markets with no official announcement from Audi India. Customers in India should receive similar benefits as the electric SUVs sold in the country are full imports.
