Aprilia recently launched its middleweight supersport motorcycle the, Aprilia RS 660, in the Indian market. With the launch of the Aprilia RS 660, Team Green’s Ninja 650 now has a new competitor with a parallel-twin-cylinder powertrain. In comparison, the Ninja 650’s parallel-twin is tried and tested and features on many other Kawasaki motorcycles. The Aprilia RS 660s twin-cylinder motor is derived from the powerful 1100 V4 engine. In this technical specifications comparison, we pin the Kawasaki Ninja 650 against the Aprilia RS 660 to make an informed buying decision.

Aprilia RS 660 Vs. Kawasaki Ninja 650 – Price

The Aprilia RS 660 comes with a price tag of INR 13.39 lakh ex-showroom. The motorcycle comes via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route. The Italian brand offers the RS 660 with three paint options – Acid Gold, Apex Black and Lava Red. On the other hand, the Kawasaki Ninja 650, retails with a price tag of INR 6.61 lakh ex-showroom. It is important to note that the Aprilia RS 660 is more than double the ex-showroom price of the Ninja 650. Kawasaki also offers the Ninja 650 with two colour options – Lime Green and Pearl Robotic White. 

Aprilia RS 660 Vs. Kawasaki Ninja 650 – Engine Specifications

Powering the Aprilia RS 660 is a forward-facing parallel twin-cylinder engine. The liquid-cooled DOHC engine comes with 659cc of displacement. The engine produces 100 PS of power and 67 Nm of torque. The motor also features front dynamic air intakes and 48-mm dual throttle bodies along with a Ride-by-Wire engine management system. The engine also features a 6-speed gearbox with Aprilia bidirectional Quick Shift (AQS) and a mechanical slipper clutch system.

Powering the Kawasaki Ninja 650 is a 649cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin cylinder engine with a DOHC valve system. The engine comes with 36 mm dual throttle valves and produces 68 PS of power and 64 Nm of torque. The motor is paired with a 6-speed return type gearbox. 

Aprilia RS 660 Vs. Kawasaki Ninja 650 – Chassis & Suspension

The Aprilia RS 660 comes with Aluminium dual beam chassis with a removable seat support subframe. The motorcycle rides on Kayaba 41mm upside-down front fork with adjustable spring preload and rebound damping. The suspension offers 120mm of travel on the front. The rear features an adjustable monoshock in spring preload and rebound damping, mounted to an asymmetric aluminium swingarm. The rear suspension offers 130mm of travel. The Kawasaki Ninja 650 comes with a 41mm conventional telescopic front fork suspension with 125mm of travel. The rear features a Horizontal back-link with adjustable preload and offers 130mm of travel. 

Aprilia RS 660 Vs. Kawasaki Ninja 650 – Brakes

Stopping power on the Aprilia RS 660 comes from 320 mm dual discs with Brembo callipers and four 32-mm opposing pistons. The radial Brembo callipers also come with a radial master pump and metal braided hydraulic circuit. On the rear, the Aprilia RS 660 come with a 220 mm disc with Brembo callipers and a pump with an integrated tank and metal braided hose. The Aprilia RS 660 also comes with a Multimap Cornering ABS. The Kawasaki Ninja 650 comes with dual floating 300 mm petal discs on the front and a 220 mm single disc on the rear with hydraulic callipers and dual-channel ABS.

The Aprilia RS 660 comes with the latest generation APRC (Aprilia Performance Ride Control) unit, including a 6-axis IMU. The Inertia Measuring Unit realises features such as Aprilia Wheelie Control, Aprilia Traction Control and Aprilia Cruise Control. Features also include Aprilia Engine Brake, Aprilia Engine Map and MultiMap Cornering ABS Function with 3-levels of adjustment. The bike comes with a large colour TFT instrument cluster as well. The Kawasaki Ninja 650 comes with a new digital TFT colour instrumentation with “RIDEOLOGY THE APP” integration. The bike also comes with LED lighting and comfortable ergonomics.
