According to a media report, Suzuki could be planning to introduce the next-generation Swift hot hatchback in the International market next year. Furthermore, the Swift hatchback will come with a Hybrid powertrain which is also likely to make its debut in the Indian market.
Design & Styling
The changes on the next-generation Swift are expected to be cosmetic and the car is likely to receive the same design detail as the current generation model except for new features on the fascia and the rear. The headlights could be made sleeker, and Suzuki could offer full LED lighting in the next-generation model. The interior is said to come with only subtle changes to its design and the car is likely to receive a larger touchscreen infotainment unit along with the latest generation telematics.
Hybrid Powertrain
While details of the new hybrid powertrain are still unknown, the Swift Strong hybrid showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 in the Indian market came with a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that makes 92 HP of power and 118 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) with paddle shift. The petrol powertrain is mated to a 10kW electric motor that generates 13.4 HP of power and 30 Nm of torque that provides torque-assist to the petrol motor. The next-generation Swift could also be capable of being propelled at slow speeds over short distances with electric-only power enhancing the fuel efficiency as well as reducing the carbon footprint. The brand could also bring a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine on the Swift in the Sport trim.
India-Spec Powertrain
Powering the Maruti Suzuki Swift in India is a BS6 emission-compliant 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 83 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 5-speed AMT gearbox. If the petrol-hybrid engine comes to the Indian street or not is still a question but the brand could bring a mild-hybrid version of the same 1.2-litre motor when the car is upgraded.
