Rumour mill has something new back in store. We all had heard about this before though, that a 7-seater Wagon-R based MPV from Maruti Suzuki was under consideration. Now, after having spotted the Solio multiple times on Indian soil, it is being said that Maruti Suzuki is eyeing this market and could launch such a product around the end of this year.
All this, rumour for now. No concrete details or any leaked official data to back this up. But if this happens, going by how popular the Wagon-R is, this car will surely be a hit, and hit sales volumes of other car manufacturers thanks to the practicality it will bring to the table.
The Suzuki Solio is a 7-seater MPV, but measures under sub-4 metres in length. This will allow it to gain tax benefits. This product in the Japanese market is powered by a 1.2L, 4-cylinder petrol motor producing 90 BHP of power and 118 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed AMT gearbox. Maruti Suzuki however could play a trump card and introduce the popular 1.3L DDiS diesel motor with this product, which will see high acceptance as per MUV /MPV perception.
Currently in this budget segment, you only have the Datsun Go+ which is a 7-seater model. The Solio if launched though would be more expensive than the Datsun model as it will be far more superior in quality & overall in every other aspect.
