Maruti Suzuki launched the all-new WagonR with a larger platform earlier this year. The new 3rd generation WagonR came with a lot more equipment and is available in two petrol engine options. Now, the Maruti Suzuki WagonR is likely to be launched in a new 7-seater MPV avatar. Rumours about this 7-seat model have been doing the rounds for more than a year now, ever since the WagonR 3-Rows Concept was showcased on international soil.
The Maruti Suzuki WagonR MPV is expected to have refreshed interiors with more advanced features as compared to the current WagonR hatchback. The underpinnings are expected to be from the standard hatchback WagonR, but will have more features for differentiation.
The exterior dimensions of the current hatchback WagonR are:-
- Length = 3655mm
- Width = 1620mm
- Height = 1675mm
- Wheelbase = 2435mm
The outgoing WagonR hatchback comes in two engine options which are mentioned below:-
- 998cc 3-cylinder, petrol engine producing 68 PS of power @ 5500 RPM and 90 Nm of torque @ 3500 RPM paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.
- 1197cc 4-cylinder, petrol engine producing 83 PS of power @ 6000 RPM and 113 Nm of torque @ 4200 RPM coupled to a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox
Of the two above mentioned engines, the latter 1.2-litre petrol engine is expected to power the WagonR MPV. It is still in question if the 7-seater Wagon R MPV will be marketed through the Maruti Suzuki Arena or the premium Nexa outlet. But going by the utilitarian nature, it should be in the standard Maruti Suzuki Arena showrooms.
The WagonR MPV when launched will compete with the 7-seater Renault Triber MPV and the Datsun Go+ in India.
