Tata Buzzard which in essence is a 7-seater Harrier SUV has been spotted again and the brand has been testing the model for quite some time leading us to believe that the launch is likely to be around the end of this year. It is also being reported that the name Buzzard which was given to the 7-seater SUV during its introduction at the 2019 Geneva Motor show is likely to be changed to ‘Cassini’.
The spy images reveal clearly that the Buzzard will follow the same design philosophy and is likely to have the same front-end design but the car will be having a different rear section. On the exterior, the 7-seater car will get a lengthened rear section to accommodate the two extra seats but instead of extending the wheelbase the SUV is likely to have elongated rear overhangs. The roof will also see a change and is likely to get a step-up design to provide headroom for the third-row passengers. The tailgate appears to be more upright and the taillights will be slightly redesigned. The third-row window panes also appear bigger on the spied test mule.
On the exterior, dimension wise the Buzzard is expected to be 4661mm in length, 63mm longer and 1786mm in height, 80mm taller than the Harrier. The Buzzard is also likely to get 18-inch alloy wheels instead of the 17-inch units that are seen on the Harrier.
In the engine department, the Buzzard is expected to be powered by the updated 2.0-litre Kryotec engine that does its duty on the Harrier. The updated engine sourced from FCA is likely to develop 170 PS of power but the torque figures remain the same at 350 Nm. For comparison the current engine on the Harrier is a 1956cc, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine that produces 140 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The BSVI compliant motor is also likely to be coupled with a Hyundai sourced 6-speed automatic transmission.
The SUV was likely to bring the end for the Hexa which is the brand’s current 7-seater SUV, but recently Tata has revealed that the Hexa stays for now.
