6th-gen Mercedes-Benz E-Class debuts with a dashboard full of screens

Mercedes-Benz showcased the sixth-generation E-Class sedan. This will go on sale internationally in the coming months. We know that the new E-Class is one of Mercedes’ last dedicated internal combustion engine models. After that, the company has plans to go electric only. We see that the new sedan has grown in size over the previous model, thus offering a larger interior.

2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Design Highlights

As for the design, the new E-Class carries a lineage similar to the other two mainstream sedans in Mercedes’ global line-up. These are the larger S-Class and the smaller C-Class. Thus, all three models now have similar styling cues. At the same time, they also have their unique looks in their own way. The new E-Class continues with its traditional looks. It gets a larger grille with an optional illuminated surround and more shapely headlamps. The bonnet is longer than the outgoing car. We understand Mercedes-Benz will offer multiple styling packages and AMG-line trims to complement the standard E-Class looks.

2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class: Mechanical Highlights

As a part of this update, we also get a revised range of drivetrains. This includes overhauled petrol-electric plug-in hybrid systems. In some markets, it comes with a greater electric range of up to 115 km (WLTP), all thanks to the equipped larger battery. Customers can have the new E-Class with a choice of four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Each of these engines will come mated to a 9-speed automatic as standard.

All petrol and diesel engines also feature 48-volt mild-hybrid properties. Thus with a gearbox-mounted integrated starter motor. This provides added power and torque, and coasting properties for improved fuel savings.

The majority of new E-Class models will benefit from a standard steel spring suspension. Meanwhile, the higher-end models are set to get a reworked version of Mercedes-Benz’s AirMatic air suspension.

2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class: What’s On The Inside?

On the inside, the new E-Class receives a significant rework. The cabin now features more contemporary digital functionality, improved comfort and higher-quality materials. As revealed back in February, the standard dashboard benefits from a free-standing 12.3-inch instrument display and a 14.4-inch portrait-style infotainment display. Buyers will have the chance to opt for the new model with Mercedes-Benz’s new Superscreen.

The new Mercedes E-Class (W214), comes equipped with Level 4 autonomous tech. It also gets a driverless valet parking function – previously only available on the S-Class. This comes in as an option in markets where laws allow, such as its home country of Germany.

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class India Launch Schedule

As we see currently, the current E-Class (V213) on sale in our market is the long-wheelbase iteration. Thus the updated E-Class too will arrive in that guise as well. Mercedes-Benz currently sells the LWB E-Class in only a handful of markets like China and India, and that too India is the only right-hand drive market. As of now Mercedes-Benz has officially confirmed and said India will get the LWB version of the new E-Class. The market debut will have around the second half of 2024.
