650cc Royal Enfield Scram continues road testing

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Royal Enfield is currently working on multiple 650cc motorcycles. One of these is the Scrambler 650. Based on the Interceptor 650, this bike was recently spotted testing. These higher capacity motorbikes from the RE stable are likely to be used to expand the company’s reach. The bikes could compete in the overseas markets by taking on the likes of Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, etc.

What’s new in the Royal Enfield Scram 650?

As it is a scrambler bike, the overall size of the motorcycle is on the smaller side. It definitely appears to be smaller than the current lot of 650cc bikes. The bike appears to be rugged and has compatible body parts. We can also see an oval plate that acts as a side panel as well. The test bike was equipped with a small exhaust and a single seat.

Overall ergonomics are expected to be good thanks to centrally mounted foot pegs and raised handlebar. Earlier test mules came with a pillion seat which was wide and looked comfortable for longer rides.

In terms of hardware, the bike is likely to get upside-down front forks, dual rear shocks and brake discs on both ends. The bike will also get dual channel ABS. There are spoke wheels fitted with knobby tyres. The bike could also get LED headlamps and a digital cluster with Tripper Navigation.

Royal Enfield is likely to offer a bunch of accessories as well as customization option for dual seats.

Powertrain of the Royal Enfield Scram 650

The same 650cc will do the duty on the Scram. This 648cc unit develops 47 BHP and 52 Nm of peak torque. It will be meshed with a six-speed gearbox. However, thanks to the single exhaust, the bike will weigh less and thus have a higher power to weight ratio. This will make the bike faster than its siblings.

The Royal Enfield Scram 650 could retail in the price range of INR 3.5 lakh range, ex-showroom.
