Hyundai has an update for customers looking to buy its premium EV crossover, the Ioniq 5. As per the Korean carmaker, it will commence the deliveries towards the end of March. Currently, Hyundai has received a total of 650 bookings for the Ioniq 5. These bookings have been underway since December 2022 for a token amount of INR 1 lakh.
The Ioniq 5 hit the Indian market in January at Auto Expo 2023 with an introductory price of INR 44.95 lakh. Hyundai had mentioned that the introductory price was applicable only for the first 500 bookings.
The design of the Ioniq 5 is very similar to the 45 EV concept which we saw at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. The retro-futuristic design language of the Ioniq 5 will greatly appeal to young dynamic customers. The key feature highlights include sharp lines, flat surfaces and a raised stance with highly raked windscreens. The headlights and tail lights also get a unique pixelated look. Riding the Ioniq 5 are 20-inch wheels with a turbine-like design. In 2022, the Ioniq 5 was the winner of a host of awards. The most notable ones are the World Design of the Year, the World Electric Car and the World Car of the Year.
Being a Hyundai we assume the Ioniq 5 gets all the latest features. And it does live up to the standards. In terms of design, Hyundai has opted for a minimalistic approach with the interior of the Ioniq 5. As for the features list, the Ioniq 5 gets two 12.3-inch screens, a heads-up display with augmented reality functions and ADAS tech.
The Ioniq 5 comes with only a 72.6kWh battery. This battery gets an ARAI-certified range of 631 km on a single charge. The rating of the motor is 217 HP and 350 Nm of torque. For charging, the Ioniq 5 supports superfast 800V charging. With this, we can charge the battery from 10-80 per cent in just 18 minutes.
Currently, the most obvious competitor to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is its cousin model, the Kia EV6. The Ioniq 5 will be assembled in India and hence it will cost much less than the Kia EV6, as it comes as a Completely Built-up Unit (CBU). The other option in this segment is the Volvo XC40 Recharge.
