6-Seater Maruti Suzuki Ertiga to be called ‘XL6’ and sold via Nexa

We all know that a 6-seater version of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is on the way to showrooms soon. Now, well ahead of any official announcement from the brand, a source who likes to disclose all of Maruti Suzuki products in pipeline has revealed that ‘XL6’ is the name that will be given to this upcoming car.

The XL6 is nothing but the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in a crossover avatar, and will have only a 6-seater layout. Another sticker on the rear windscreen reveals that the XL6 will be sold via Nexa outlets. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the XL6, both will co-exist across the Maruti Suzuki Arena and Nexa dealerships, respectively.

As per the spyshots, the 2019 Maruti Suzuki XL6 gets blacked out alloy wheels, body cladding, silver accents on side skirts and rear skid plate effect, roof rails, vertical reflector strips on the rear bumper. Although the front end of the car is not visible, the XL6 will look drastically different from the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, for a more premium identification. Also, the interiors of the car will get a few changes such as black interior theme or other dark shades, new seat upholstery, XL6 branding, etc.

The XL6 is expected to debut with the 1.5L petrol engine with SHVS which has a 4-cylinder block. This motor will produce 104.7 PS of power and 138 Nm of torque matched to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Most likely, the 1.5L diesel engine will also be offered in due course of time.

All this, the finer details, at this moment are speculative till the time makes any official announcement. There will be a generous amount of black applique and body cladding to make the XL6 look rough road friendly. Also, the ground clearance could be a little higher than the standard Ertiga.

Expect the XL6 to demand a premium pricing compared to the Ertiga. This will be the first such car from Maruti Suzuki to be sold in both their showrooms by different names, and a few cosmetic changes. Will it work? Time will tell…
