Kia Sonet compact-SUV crosses 50,000 bookings in 2 Months, 2 cars booked every 3 minutes

Kia Motors India has announced that the brand has reached yet another milestone on the smart urban compact SUV the Kia Sonet. The Kia Sonet SUV was launched on 18th September 2020 and just over a month of its launch the brand has now announced that it has garnered more than 50,000 bookings on the Sonet. The record number of bookings have been attained in two months of the commencements of bookings that started on 20th August 2020. With this number, Kia boasts to have a game-changing status in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.

The brand has revealed that on average, Indian customers, have placed two orders every three minutes since the company started accepting bookings. Furthermore, Kia announced that the brand dispatched 9,266 units of the Sonet in September 2020, making the Sonet a leader in the compact SUV segment within 12 days of its price announcement and market launch. The brand has revealed that the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol & 1.2 naturally-aspirated petrol powertrains account for 60% of the bookings, with the balance taken up by the 1.5-litre CRDi Diesel engine option.

The Made in India compact SUV is offered in two trims – ‘Tech Line’ and ‘GT Line’. The Tech Line comes with HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX and HTX+ trim and the GT Line is offered with fully loaded GTX+ trims. The Sonet is powered by 1.2-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. A 1.0 T-GDi turbo-petrol engine matched to a clutch-pedal less 6-speed iMT (intelligent manual transmission) or an automatic 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission). The Sonet is also offered in two 1.5-litre CRDi diesel (WGT & VGT) that come married to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed torque converter type automatic gearbox. 

The company has overcome the challenging conditions caused by COVID-19 disruptions and delivered the Kia Sonet SUV to its customers adhering to the promised timelines and ensuring the uninterrupted production at its Anantapur plant to meet the high demand. The state-of-the-art manufacturing facility has an annual production capacity of 300,000 units, to keep up with the rising demand. In September 2020, Kia Motors India recorded sales of 18,676 units with 9,266 unit of the Sonet as mentioned above and 9,079 unit sales of the Kia Seltos, showing 147% year-on-year growth.  

The Kia Sonet was launched in the India market at an introductory price of INR 6.71 lakh ex-showroom, pan-India.
