Mahindra & Mahindra has announced that the company will be conducting a ‘Mega Delivery’ of the brand new Thar SUV across the country. The brand has announced that it will be delivering 500 all-new Thar across the market between the 7th November 2020 and 8th November 2020 commencing the Diwali festive season on a positive note. The deliveries are based on the sequence of bookings received for the variants that are available for delivery.
Mahindra has also taken the delivery process one step further. The company will be contacting each customer individually through Mahindra’s customer connect process and communicate the tentative or exact delivery date assuring them the schedule and reducing the anxiety. The customers will also be updated at every step regarding the delivery schedule and the status of the waiting period.
Mahindra commenced the delivery process on 1st of November with the delivery of the all-new Thar #1, which was delivered to Mr Aakash Minda, the CEO of Minda Corporation who outbid more than 5500 bidders from more than 500 locations winning the auction with a bid of INR 1.1 Crore. The Thar #1 delivered to Mr Minda was in the fully-loaded LX Petrol Automatic Transmission Convertible avatar in the Mystic Copper colour, as chosen by Mr Aakash Minda.
The coveted model number one features the ‘Thar #1’ badge to differentiate the vehicle, the serial number ‘1’ on the decorative plate placed on the dashboard, customised badge with owner’s initials, in this case ‘A.M’ and leatherette upholstery. The petrol-powered automatic Thar #1 comes with a 2.0-litre mStallion Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection four-cylinder 16-valve DOHC petrol engine that makes 150 Bhp of power and 320 Nm matched to a 6-speed torque converter type automatic transmission.
The Thar is also available in the 6-speed manual transmission option on the petrol motor as well as a mHawk 130 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine that churns out 130 Bhp of power and 300 Nm of torque is available for diesel aficionados. The diesel is also mated with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. The all-new Thar is offered with a 4X4 driveline with a manual transfer case as standard.
Currently, the 2020 Thar has crossed the 20,000 booking mark, leading to a waiting period of seven months. To cope with the surge in demand the brand has decided to ramp up the production capacity to 3,000 units a month from January 2021, from the earlier planned capacity of 2,000 units a month.
