Volkswagen is currently on the SUV offensive for the Indian market. At the 15th edition of the Auto Expo 2020, the German brand revealed that it will be launching four SUVs in the Indian market, in the year 2021. Now the brand confirms that, under the SUVW strategy, Volkswagen will be launching the T-Roc and Tiguan Allspace SUV and the Volkswagen Taigun SUV. But the fourth Volkswagen SUV was kept under wraps, until now.
Now the brand reveals that the fourth SUV for the Indian market in 2021 will be the 5-seater Tiguan facelift. The brand has also confirmed that the MY 2021 Tiguan Allspace (7-Seater) will make its debut in 2021 along with the MY 2021 Volkswagen T-Roc. Volkswagen brings both the Tiguan Allspace and the T-Roc to the Indian soil via the CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) route, under the homologation free for up to 2,500 cars rule. The brand is going to allocate another batch of both popular SUVs for the year 2021.
The Volkswagen Tiguan recently received a facelift in the international market and Volkswagen under the SUVW strategy is likely to bring the 2021 Tiguan to the Indian market. The brand also reveals that powering the Tiguan in India will be a 2.0-litre TSI engine, but the technical specifications of the motor are not available yet. We speculate that it will be the same BS6 compliant 2.0-litre TSI four-cylinder petrol engine that does duty on the Tiguan Allspace and delivers 190 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel drive.
The Volkswagen Tiguan will come with features such as LED matrix headlights with L-shaped LED daytime running lights, new LED taillamps, new front and rear bumpers with geometrical trims, the latest generation (MIB3) infotainment system with the latest telematics and connected features, fully digital instruments cluster, a new-generation steering wheel with illuminated touch controls, touch-sensitive sliders and buttons for the air-conditioning system and a number of active and passive safety features available as standard.
