Maruti has just launched the Jimny in India earlier this month. Now, the 5-door Jimny is also going to be sold in the Australian market. While most of the features are expected to be the same as the ones found in India, there is one major difference.
Maruti is likely to retain most of the features of the car. This includes the like of projector headlamps, 4-seat layout, automatic and manual transmission options along with four wheel drive system to name a few. However, there is likely to be one key difference.
The Australian-spec 5-door Jimny will feature an additional safety feature. This is nothing but the Advanced Driver Assistance System or ADAS. This suite will offer autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane departure warning and high beam assist amongst others.
The new ADAS features are due to the Australian regulations. According to the latest rules, all new cars sold after March 2023 in Australia are expected to offer AEB as standard.
Maruti Suzuki revealed the prices for the Jimny on June 7. The prices start from a price tag of INR 12.74 lakh, and go up to INR 15.05 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec automatic variant.
Safety features on the SUV include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill hold, Hill descent control amongst others. Maruti could also consider offering ADAS on the Indian-spec Jimny at a later stage.
The Jimny comes with a 1.5-litre petrol engine. This motor develops 103 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 134.2 Nm @ 4,000 rpm. Maruti is offering a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic to choose from. Also standard is Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro all-wheel drive system. In India, the Jimny heads up against the likes of the Mahindra Thar and the Force Gurkha in the lifestyle vehicle segment.
