Bajaj Auto and Triumph Motorcycles are set to expand their collaboration with the launch of two new 400 cc bikes in 2024. This strategic partnership, which has already brought the Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X to the market, aims to make premium motorcycling more accessible to a broader audience.
The upcoming models are expected to be unveiled before the festive season, with one of them likely to be the Thruxton 400. This model, inspired by the iconic Thruxton R, will feature a retro semi-faired cafe racer design. Spy shots have revealed design elements such as a round headlight, bar-end mirrors, and a clear windscreen, giving it a distinct and stylish look.
The second model remains a mystery, but speculation suggests it could be a Speedmaster 400, a cruiser with a long wheelbase, or a more aggressive Street 400. There is also a possibility of a fully faired Daytona 400, designed to compete with the likes of the KTM RC 390.
Both new models will be built on the same 400 cc platform that powers the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X. This platform features a 398.15cc single-cylinder engine, known for its balance of performance and efficiency. The new bikes are expected to share many components with their predecessors, including the chassis, suspension, and braking systems.
Bajaj Auto is ramping up its production capacity to meet the anticipated demand for these new models. The company plans to increase its production from 5,000 to 10,000 units per month by October 2024. This expansion is aimed at capturing a significant share of the mid-capacity motorcycle market in India and other emerging markets.
The pricing strategy for these new models will be crucial. By positioning the Thruxton 400 slightly above the Speed 400 and below the Scrambler 400X, Bajaj and Triumph hope to attract a wide range of customers. The new designs and competitive pricing are expected to boost sales and strengthen the brand’s presence in the market.
The launch of these two new 400cc motorcycles marks a significant milestone in the Bajaj-Triumph partnership. By combining Triumph’s heritage and design expertise with Bajaj’s manufacturing prowess, the collaboration aims to offer high-quality, affordable motorcycles to enthusiasts around the world.
