400 deaths a day due to road accidents in India

While the government is pushing for infrastructure development and making vehicles safe, the death toll due to road accidents in India is very high. It is reported that road accidents claim almost 400 lives a day.

Lack of awareness of road safety, rash driving, and other factors contribute to this high number of fatalities.

Since 2014, this number has increased by 5%, which is a shame considering road safety is being promoted so hard.

Top state for road accidents are in the following order – Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka & Rajasthan.

States like Delhi, Chandigarh & Assam however saw a decline in road accidents.

Stricter traffic law implementation, safer cars & bikes and better infrastructure is the way forward; however, motorists being aware of the hazards and valuing their lives is more important than anything else.
