The government of Maharashtra is set to rework on the state road toll policy and could end up scrapping up to 40 toll plazas across the state.
Most of these toll plazas apart from recovering money, also result is bad traffic during peak hours. As a result, the commuter not only pays for the poor infrastructure, but also wastes a lot of time.
For example, the Thane-Mulund toll plaza on the Eastern Express Highway is jam packed every morning & evening during peak hours. A commuter wastes almost 30-40 minutes just to pass through this road block. Do we pay the price for getting things delayed?
The government is also planning to exempt private light motor vehicles from road toll completely and increase toll by up to 5% for commercial vehicles.
Road toll exemption will not include special projects such as Bandra-Worli Sea Link, where majority of vehicles are private cars.
If elected, BJP had announced that it will make Maharashtra a toll-free state. Will this happen? Only time will tell…
