Nissan reveals the all-new Qashqai which will likely go on sale in the international market really soon. The SUV is very different from its predecessor with significant changes to the design, powertrain and platform.
New Exterior Design
The new CMF-C platform developed by the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance underpins the new Nissan Qashqai. In terms of the design, the front end gets the new V-Motion chrome grille with boomerang-shaped LED headlights. Sources suggest that the Nissan Qashqai uses a more aerodynamic design to improve the range of the battery. In fact, the use of composite and aluminium panels reduce the overall weight of the SUV by 60 kgs even though Nissan claims that with the help of the new welding and stamping technique the overall stiffness now stands 41 per cent more than before. The physical dimension of the car has also increased by 35 mm in length, 25 mm in height and 32 mm in width.
Changes To The Interior
There are a lot of changes to the interior department as well. The most notable ones being the free-standing 9.0-inch touchscreen display with built-in Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa and the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The increased wheelbase of 20 mm contributes to an additional 28 mm of knee room for the rear passengers. To improve the visibility Nissan is using thinner A-pillars and a wide windscreen opening angle. The fuel capacity is now rated at 50-litres all thanks to the new rear suspension which gives some extra room to fit a bigger fuel tank.
Engine and Powertrain
Nissan Qashqai will have two engine options, one is the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 12V mild-hybrid system. This engine comes in with two states of tune, one produces 140 HP and the other produces 156 HP. Nissan is also offering its ‘ePower’ powertrain which mates a 156 HP 1.5-litre petrol engine to a 140 kW electric motor.
