Italian Supercar marquee Automobili Lamborghini has revealed the Lamborghini Sián Roadster, an open-top Hybrid super sports car limited to a production-series of only 19 examples worldwide and all of them have been sold even before its public debut. The Sián Roadster boasts one of the best cockpits which is always open to the sky, symbolising freedom from the lockdown, imposed in many countries worldwide, due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The Sián Roadster is built around the powerful naturally-aspirated V12 engine with electric hybrid technology making it one of the most powerful Lamborghini engines till date. The Sián Roadster is powered by a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V-12-cylinder petrol engine coupled to a low-hybrid electric system with the world’s first use of ‘Super Capacitor’ application to store power and can store ten times more amount of power than the Lithium-Ion technology. The 6.5-litre V12 with titanium intake valves produces 785 Hp of power at 6500 RPM and the sum of both the thermal and electrical powertrains is 819 Hp.
The super capacitor system is located in the bulkhead between cockpit and engine ensuring perfect weight distribution and the e-motor weighs only 34 kgs and produces 34 hp of power, a remarkable power-to-weight ratio of 1 Hp/Kg. The 48-volt e-motor is incorporated into the gearbox and provides immediate response and improved performance. The electric system also incorporates a highly sophisticated regenerative braking system that completely recharges the super capacitor every time the vehicle brakes, unlike the lithium-ion system that charges and discharges with the same power.
The stored electrical energy can be used immediately in the form of ‘Boost’, increasing torque while the vehicle is propelled up to 130 kmph where the e-motor decouples automatically. The system provides instant acceleration in lower gears, improved traction and with the Lamborghini V12 ICE, the Sián Roadster can sprint to 100 kmph in less than 2.9 seconds from a standstill and reach a top speed of over 350 kmph. The e-motor also supports low-speed manoeuvres such as reversing and parking with electric power.
In terms of design, the Sián Roadster features a futuristic design language with the iconic periscopio line inspired by the first Lamborghini Countach, with diagonal lines running from the cockpit to the air streamers behind the driver & passenger, sculptured aero wings, carbon fibre splitter and Y-shaped LED daytime running lights with LED headlamps. The rear also features Countach inspired six hexagonal taillights and a body integrated rear wing that extends out to enhance performance. The design details pay special attention to the car’s aerodynamic abilities and the Sián Roadster features active cooling vanes on the rear with patented materials-science technology and aero ducts that channel air around and over the car without loss of aerodynamic efficiency due to the roofless design.
In terms of styling, the Sián Roadster has made its debut in a unique Blu Uranus exterior paint with finished with Oro Electrum wheels selected by Lamborghini’s Centro Stile, which together with the Ad Personam department works signifying Blue sky, green fields and electrification. On the interiors, the Sián Roadster comes with a combination of white with Blu Glauco aluminium Oro Electrum trim on the transmission tunnel and door pads and new design air vents. Clients can also customize the exterior paint with an option of 400 different colours and custom styling with faded and naked carbon fibre options. Even the interiors can be customised with different colours for seats, stitching trim and even the door handles and via 3D printing more customisation such as the customer’s initials can be added to the vents.
