300+ bookings for the Mercedes-Benz EQS electric sedan

Mercedes-Benz recently launched the all-electric EQS sedan. Now, the German carmaker has garnered over 300 bookings for this car, priced at INR 1.55 crore.

The EQS 580 4MATIC is the 14th model from the Mercedes-Benz line-up to be made in India. Thanks to lower GST on electric vehicles and the benefit of no registration tax in some states, this electric version is actually cheaper than the regular S-Class to buy. Deliveries for the EQS 580 have already begun, and newer bookings are expected to be serviced in early 2023.

Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 Range

One of the key reasons for a much higher interest in this sedan is the ARAI-certified range of 857 km. An actual world figure of over 600 km range is more than enough for many buyers of this segment. Further, the EQS 580 also supports Ultra-Fast Charging. Mercedes-Benz claims that a 200 kW Ultra-Fast DC Charger can add 300 km of range in just 15 minutes of charging.

Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 Design

On the outside, the EQS 580 4MATIC looks much more subtle design compared to the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+. The former gets a different design for the bumper and the blanked-out grille. The EQS 580 rides on smaller 20-inch wheels with a 5-spoke design. This gives the car a drag coefficient of 0.20, making it the “world’s most aerodynamic production car”.

On the inside, The EQS features Mercedes-Benz’s massive MBUX Hyperscreen. The 56-inch curved screen spans across the length of the dashboard. The screen consists of 3 elements – a 17.7-inch central infotainment screen and two 12.3-inch screens for the driver and front passenger. The car also gets features like air filtration, 3D Maps and a head-up display. The sedan also receives a Burmester 3D Surround Sound system.

Mercedes-Benz EQS Safety

Regarding safety features, the EQS gets nine airbags, Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC, Attention Assist, PRE-SAFE, Active Brake Assist with cross-traffic function, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist and more. It also has been awarded a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Mercedes-Benz EQS battery and powertrain

The latest EV from Mercedes-Benz India uses a large 107.8 kWh battery pack. It is powered by dual electric motors – each on one axle – making a combined peak power of 523 HP and 885 Nm of peak torque. All this power is sent to all the wheels via the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. The car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 4.3 seconds. The EQS has a limited top speed of 210 kmph. The EQS 580 4MATIC will also come with rear-wheel steering for the first 500 customers.

Mercedes-Benz has also announced that it will bring in the 7-seater EQB as the next EV for India. Once it arrives, Mercedes-Benz India will have 3 EVs in its India line-up – EQC, EQS and EQB.
