Mercedes-Benz has revealed the all-new 2nd generation GLA SUV which will make a debut in the Indian market sometime in 2020. This baby SUV from Mercedes-Benz rivals the likes of BMW X1 & Volvo XC40 and looks much more sleeker now dropping the previous bulbous design. Mercedes-Benz will introduce the new GLA in India with BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engines, along with a high-performance AMG variant. There could also be plug-in hybrid and electric variations which would be showcased in due course of time. With sales almost close to a million worldwide, the GLA is a popular small SUV in the luxury car market. One can clearly notice the design cues from the new A-Class as well.
The 2nd generation Mercedes-Benz GLA measures 4410mm in length, 2020mm in width, 1611mm in height, 2729mm in wheelbase. This makes it 14mm shorter, 2mm less wide but is 104mm taller and 30mm longer in wheelbase. This should make the new GLA more roomy inside the cabin and this car is based on the new MFA architecture. The seats in the GLA have been placed 140mm higher than the A-Class giving it a commanding driving position. With the taller height, the front cabin of the new GLA has 22mm more headroom while the rear cabin has 6mm less headroom. The new GLA can also be ordered with an adjustable rear seat which moves front and back to allow for 116mm extra legroom than the predecessor. Boot space is rated at 435L. Ground clearance is now at 143mm which is 9mm more than before.
Powering the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 would be a 1.3L, 4-cylinder, turbo-petrol motor producing 163 HP of power with a front-wheel-drive setup. The Mercedes-AMG GLa 35 will come with a 2.0L, turbo-petrol motor producing 306 HP power. Since this is an SUV, staying true to that claim, customers can also order an off-road package which adds off-road headlamps and off-road driving modes.
The new model rides on alloy wheels ranging betweek 17″ to 20″ and the GLA crossover gets new sleeker LED headlamp and tail lamps, new roof spoiler, panamericana grille, new tailpipe design, sporty bumpers, body cladding of course, floating digital instrument cluster with touchscreen infotainment, MBUX with the new touchpad, coloured head-up display, ambient lights, etc.
