272 HP turbo petrol engine for Jeep Compass overseas

The Jeep Compass is a very popular product in the international market. It is one of the most successful ones for the FCA group. Jeep has fitted the Compass with the FCA GME class engine, giving it a massive power boost.

More Power

The international-spec Jeep Compass now gets a 2.0 L turbo-petrol engine that makes 272 hp and 400 Nm of torque. This makes it the most powerful Compass till date. This same engine is seen on the Jeep Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee sold in India. Incidentally, this engine also powers some models from Alfa Romeo and Maserati.

The Compass with this new engine boasts of a top speed of 228 kmph and a 0 to 100 time of just 6.3 secs. It is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission and comes with 4WD as standard.

Will the More Powerful Jeep Compass Come to India?

The Compass on sale in India does not come with a petrol engine as of now. Considering that the India-spec Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee already have this engine, it will be a great idea to get it on the Compass as well. However, this will incredibly increase the costs of the Jeep Compass which is already one of the pricier cars in the segment. Jeep is already working on getting the 1.3 L turbo-petrol engine for the Compass in India. The introduction of this power mill is still a year away. The same engine will also be seen in the facelifted Jeep Meridian.

Long story short, the 272 hp engine might not make it to India any time soon. Even if it did, Jeep could bring a special edition in limited numbers that could get some enthusiasts excited.
