TVS always has some interesting concept motorcycles on display during the Auto Expo. Now, reports suggest that the Zeppelin cruiser motorcycle concept is nearly production ready and could make a market debut in 2020. The cruiser bike could launch at the 2020 Auto Expo and will rival the likes of Bajaj Avenger and Suzuki Intruder. The bike is expected to be priced around INR 1.1 – 1.2 lakh ex-showroom.
The Zeppelin concept model was very radical. It got features like Integrated Starter Generator (ISG), an assist motor, HD cameras and the likes which most definitely not make it to the production bike. This was just a wow factor on the concept. However, the bike will retain the overall design and proportions, which do look like a modern-day cruiser bike, and much better than the rivals. The TVS Zeppelin when launched is expected to get features such as USD front forks, rear monoshock, full LED lighting, digital speedo console from the Apache series, dual-channel ABS and the likes.
The TVS Zeppelin is expected to be powered by an engine derived from the Apache RTR 200 4V. While the Apache has a 197cc block, the Zeppelin will have a 212cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled block which will also be BSVI compliant. With an increased bore size, we don’t know what the power and torque figures would be from this engine, but the gearing will be more suitable to city riding and the cruiser bike DNA. Expect a 5-speed / 6-speed gearbox on the TVS Zeppelin and we expect slipper clutch to be given a miss to keep costs in check.
The Zeppelin concept was showcased with spoked rims, but we expect alloy wheels and tubeless tyres on the production model. Also, there would be conventional rear view mirrors, a saree guard, leg guard and the likes on the bike one can buy. While the concept was surely an exciting looking motorcycle, we are keen to see how the real deal looks like, especially to rival in the affordable cruiser bike segment which still does not see too many manufacturers trying their hands in.
