Motorcycling enthusiasts have long awaited an adventure tourer with a twin-cylinder engine and an affordable price tag, and their wishes seem to be coming true with the upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 650. Here’s what we know from the first spy images:
The Himalayan 650 features an air/oil-cooled, 648cc twin-cylinder motor—the same one used in other RE 650cc bikes like the Continental GT, Shotgun, and Interceptor. The engine tuning might be slightly different to enhance the motorcycle’s off-road capabilities.
Notably, it sports an upswept two-into-one exhaust, making it the second motorcycle in the RE 650 range to feature this setup after the Interceptor Bear 650.
The Himalayan 650 will be the first Indian motorcycle to use dual front disc brakes. It also boasts a USD fork with damping adjusters on the fork tops. The damping setting is still being fine-tuned. The wheel configuration appears road-biased, likely 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels. The spy shot also shows that the motorcycle is equipped with spoked wheels. We might also see this bike get tubeless tyres to complement the spoked wheels. The motorcycle could also get adjustable seats.
Like its smaller sibling, the Himalayan 450, the 650 gets the Tripper TFT display and integrated indicators. It will also get all-LED lighting. The split seat setup and rear grab handle remain consistent with the Himalayan 450. The tank rails and fuel tank design are likely new.
The Himalayan 650 is still some time away from launch however, this spy shot means that the bike is getting ready to production. We might see the launch happening later this year or early next year. With adventure motorcycles being a rage in the country, if priced under INR 4 lakh, this could be a very exciting product.
