The latest spy shots arrive from European roads, where the DC Dacia also called the Renault Duster, the latest-gen model is seen on a test run. The variant spotted is special as it is equipped with a 4X4 badge and an electric motor at the rear axle. The 4X4 iteration of the new Duster has yet to be launched in international markets.
Speaking of the interesting bits first, it is equipped with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that will be mated to a 48V mild-hybrid motor. Additionally, it gets an electric rear axle motor that looks similar to the Jeep Avenger 4e. This motor has been developed by Valeo and it is sold to multiple brands including the Dacia and Renault.
Interestingly, this engine and drivetrain combination will be offered only with an automatic gearbox. Currently, the power and torque figures for this engine spec are unknown but we are expecting it to be a tractable motor that will provide good grip levels on the loose surfaces like snow and sand.
Dacia and Renault have collectively constructed the Duster platform. The new SUV chassis is even more strengthened to provide better performance and added safety, as compared to the old-gen Duster.
Renault has already confirmed that it will bring the Duster compact SUV to India soon. It will be offered with two engine options; both will be petrol and feature turbocharger as well as hybrid assistance. Additionally, Renault plans to bring the Bigster SUV in India, which is essentially a 7-seater version of the Duster.
As of now, the expected timeline for its Indian debut is in early 2026. Upon its launch, the new Duster will compete with the Maruti Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos. We are assuming that its price bracket will also be identical to the competition.
