Toyota has just unveiled the Land Cruiser J250. This new SUV will also sport the Prado badge in some of the international markets. The J250 also marks the return of the Land Cruiser in the USA.
Toyota has gone for a completely new design for the J250. It comes with a retro design and boxy proportions. In the USA, this will compete with the likes of the Jeep Wrangler and the Ford Bronco. In terms of pricing, expect it to be positioned lower than the LC300.
Coming to the size, the Land Cruiser Prado measures 4,920 mm in length, 2,139 mm in width and 1,859 mm in width. The wheelbase is 2,850 mm with a 221 mm of ground clearance. This new Prado is based on the Japanese carmaker’s TNGA-F platform. It is a ladder-frame underpinnings.
Toyota is offering the Land Cruiser Prado in different trims. The starting price is set at US$ 55,000. There is the base-spec LC 1958, the middle-tier Land Cruiser and the top-end LC First Edition. While the first edition is limited to just 5000 units, it will offer a much more rugged vehicle suitable for off-roading. Toyota offers all these variants in different visual styles to differentiate them.
Feature list on the car includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, moonroof, heated & ventilated seats, HUD & wireless charging and more. There is also Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0.
For off-road driving, the car comes with Multi-Terrain Select System, Downhill Assist, Electronic Locking Rear Differential and Crawl Control. Further, for enhanced usage, there is also the Front Stabiliser Bar Disconnect System and the Multi-link Rear Suspension System.
The 2024 Land Cruiser Prado gets a 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine. This is paired with a 1.87 kWh battery unit. The J250 comes with 326 BHP and 630 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to all the wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a full-time all-wheel drive system.
