Nissan has launched the X-Trail SUV in the Indian market. The Nissan X-Trail comes to India via the CBU (Completely Built-Up Unit) route and is in no way inexpensive with an INR 49.92 lakh ex-showroom. At this price tag, the X-Trail competes with the likes of the BMW X1, the Hyundai Tucson, Toyota Fortuner and the Jeep Meridian in India. Now, we got the chance to test the Nissan X-Trail so that we can bring you all the details on the Japanese SUV.
The Nissan X-Trail comes with features such as a V-Motion grille on the front, and a four-eyed fascia. The SUV also gets LED headlamps and boomerang LED taillamps. The X-Trail also comes with diamond-cut 20-inch alloy wheels and bold wheel arches as well. On the inside, the X-Trail also comes with features such as 20.32-cm touchscreen infotainment system and a 31.2-cm full digital drivers display.
In terms of the aerodynamics, Nissan offers plenty of aerodynamic features such as air curtains on the front bumper, active aero slats on the front air dam that shut to allow the air to pass around the SUV and open automatically when the engine requires cooling. The A-pillar design, the taillamps, the rear spoiler, 3D tyre deflectors and the underbody covers also improve aero efficiency of the large SUV.
Powering the Nissan X-Trail is a 1.5-litre VC-Turbo petrol engine with 12V ALIS Mild Hybrid system. The engine produces 163 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque matched to an electronic CVT gearbox. The Mild Hybrid system also offers torque assist to the engine and allows the SUV to crawl as low speeds. However, the piece de resistance is the Variable Compression technology. The engine is the world’s first variable compression engine on a mass production car. The technology allows the engine to change the compression ratio on the go. This means with 14:1 compression ratio the SUV can deliver more efficiency and change it to 8:1 when more power is demanded.
